Well history

WRITTEN BY THE NORWEGIAN OFFSHORE DIRECTORATE

General

Wildcat well 6507/1-1 was drilled off shore Mid Norway on the D ønna Terrace, west of the 6507/2-2 Discovery. The primary objective for the well was to test the potential for hydrocarbon reservoirs in the Cretaceous Lysing formation.

The well should drill into the Lange Formation in order to tag and evaluate a seismic marker.

Operations and results

Well 6507/1-1 was spudded with the semi-submersible installation Stena Dee on 25 September 2004 and drilled to TD at 3745 m in Late Cretaceous sediments in the Lange Formation. Drilling to TD went without significant problems, but wire line logs could not pass 2135 m due to an obstruction at this depth. When running the BHA for conditioning the hole, lost circulation occurred and it was decided to plug and abandon without wire line logging. Hence, only MWD is available below 2135. The well was drilled with seawater and bentonite gel sweeps down to 1377 m and with Versavert oil based mud from 1377 m to TD.

The only significant reservoir section in the well was the 64 m gross thickness Lysing Formation, encountered at 3446 m. No hydrocarbons were detected, and the only shows seen were fluorescence due to the oil base in the mud. The Lange Marker was tagged at 3693 m. No wire line pressure measurements or formation fluid samples were taken. No cores were cut.

The well was permanently abandoned on 2 November 2004 as dry.

Testing

About this data

Norwegian Offshore Directorate (Sodir) FactPages, mirrored nightly and used under the Norwegian Licence for Open Government Data (NLOD). Depths are metres along the wellbore from the kelly bushing unless a row gives its own unit; older cores are filed in feet. A zero the Directorate files for an unmeasured pressure, density, or temperature is shown as a dash.
