Well history

WRITTEN BY THE NORWEGIAN OFFSHORE DIRECTORATE

General

Well 7/7-4 was drilled on the Orange prospect on the Jæren High in the North Sea; about one km from the UK border. The purpose of the well was to prove hydrocarbons in the Paleocene Forties sandstone unit.

Operations and results

Well 7/7-4 was spudded with the jack-up installation Mærsk Guardian on 29 August 2007 and drilled to TD at 3054 m (3034 m TVD) in the Paleocene Ekofisk Formation. There were some shallow geo-hazards within the survey area, and the chosen well location was free from identified geo-hazard risks. This resulted in a slight directional nudge at 1350 m in the 12.1/4" section required to place the well vertical before top reservoir. The well was drilled with sea water down to 231 m, with Seawater/PHB/PAC pills from 231 m to 633 m, with KCl/glycol mud from 633 m to 1172 m, and with Carbo-Sea OBM from 1172 m to TD. Various technical problems resulted in nearly 20 days more rig time than planned for this well.

The Orange prospect well found 129 m of the expected inter-bedded sand and shale sequence of the Forties Formation, but water wet through the entire section. No shows were reported from the well. Top of the Formation was at 2820 m.

No cores were cut and no wire line fluid samples were taken.

The well was permanently abandoned on 20 October 2007 as a dry well.

Testing

No drill stem test was performed.

About this data

Norwegian Offshore Directorate (Sodir) FactPages, mirrored nightly and used under the Norwegian Licence for Open Government Data (NLOD). Depths are metres along the wellbore from the kelly bushing unless a row gives its own unit; older cores are filed in feet. A zero the Directorate files for an unmeasured pressure, density, or temperature is shown as a dash.
