Well history

WRITTEN BY THE NORWEGIAN OFFSHORE DIRECTORATE

General

Well 25/4-10 S was drilled in the Vana Sub-basin in the North Sea. The objective was to test the hydrocarbon potential in the Viper prospect, a mapped injection feature of remobilised Hermod sands into overlying Balder Formation sediments, with analogies to the Volund field in the southwest.

Operations and results

Wildcat well 25/4-10 S was spudded with the semi-submersible installation Transocean Winner on 20 October 2009 and drilled to TD at 2912 m (2222 m TVD) in the Paleocene Heimdal Formation. Obstructions in the 17 1/2" section from 197 to 812 m made it difficult to run the 13 3/8" casing, but it was finally cemented in place at 797 m. The well was drilled with seawater and hi-vis pills down to 815 m and with Versatec OBM from 815 m to TD.

A 16.5 m TVD thick Hermod Formation injection sand was encountered at 2671 to 2698 m and was oil bearing with an oil water contact identified at 2682.9 m (2033.1 m TVDSS), 7 m TVD shallower than prognosed. The resulting 7 m TVD hydrocarbon column was insufficient to warrant the planned MDT logging run. Oil shows in the well, if any, were masked by the oil based mud.

No cores were cut and no wire line logs were run in the well. Consequently, no wire line fluid samples were taken.

The well was plugged back for sidetracking on 10 November 2009. It is classified as an oil discovery.

Testing

No drill stem test was performed.

About this data

Norwegian Offshore Directorate (Sodir) FactPages, mirrored nightly and used under the Norwegian Licence for Open Government Data (NLOD). Depths are metres along the wellbore from the kelly bushing unless a row gives its own unit; older cores are filed in feet. A zero the Directorate files for an unmeasured pressure, density, or temperature is shown as a dash.
