Well history

WRITTEN BY THE NORWEGIAN OFFSHORE DIRECTORATE

General

Well 34/10-52 B is a sidetrack to well 34/10-32 A, drilled to evaluate two fault segments, 10A and 10B on the southern part of the Gullfaks Sør field. The A well encountered an incomplete Brent Group package due to unprognosed faulting in fault segment 10B. The A well discovered oil and gas in Tarbert and upper Ness formations. Sidetrack B was drilled to penetrate and clarify the resource potential, hydrocarbon distribution and pressure conditions in segment 10A

Operations and results

Wildcat well 34/10-52 B was sidetracked on 7 August 2011 from well 34/10-52 A. The kick-off window was at 2720 - 2725 m. It was drilled with the semi-submersible installation Deepsea Atlantic and drilled to TD at 4050 m (3613 m TVD) in the Early Jurassic Drake Formation. Inclination angle was up to 64 deg at 3125 m, falling off to around 43 deg at 3550, and kept at that angle down to TD. No significant technical problem was encountered in the operations. The well was drilled with Versatec OBM from kick-off to TD.

A complete Brent package with prognosed thickness was observed. However, top Brent Group came in 70 m shallower than prognosed with the revised interpretation from well 34/10-52 A. Initial pressures were again measured and hydrocarbons were observed down to 3665 m (3332 m TVD). No oil shows were recorded due to the use of OBM.

No cores were cut. Wire line MRSC and MPSR fluid samples were taken at 3570 m (oil), 3609.1 m (oil), and at 3655 m (gas condensate).

The well was permanently abandoned on 22 August 2011 as an oil and gas discovery.

About this data

Norwegian Offshore Directorate (Sodir) FactPages, mirrored nightly and used under the Norwegian Licence for Open Government Data (NLOD). Depths are metres along the wellbore from the kelly bushing unless a row gives its own unit; older cores are filed in feet. A zero the Directorate files for an unmeasured pressure, density, or temperature is shown as a dash.
