Well history

WRITTEN BY THE NORWEGIAN OFFSHORE DIRECTORATE

General

Well 6706/11-2 was drilled to test the Gymir prospect about 20 kilometres west of the Aasta Hansteen field in the northern part of the Norwegian Sea. The primary objective was to prove petroleum in the Late Cretaceous Nise formation.

Operations and results

Wildcat well 6706/11-2 was spudded with the semi-submersible installation Transocean Spitsbergen on 25 May 2015 and drilled to TD at 2596 m in the Late Cretaceous Nise Formation. No significant problem was encountered in the operations. The well was drilled with seawater and hi-vis sweeps down to 1896 m and with Versatec DW oil-based mud from 1896 m to TD.

Top of the Nise Reservoir was encountered at 2375 m. The Nise Formation contained gas column of about 69 m, of which 40 m in sandstone with very good reservoir quality. The gas/water contact was established by logs and good pressure data at 2444 m. The contact match with a seismic flat spot. Oil shows (light coloured direct and cut fluorescence) were described in the interval 2385 to 2393 m

One core was cut from 2388 to 2415 m in the Nise Formation. MDT fluid samples were taken at 2381.23 m (gas) and at 2483.15 m (water).

The well was permanently abandoned on 6 June 2015 as a gas discovery.

Testing

No drill stem test was performed.

About this data

Norwegian Offshore Directorate (Sodir) FactPages, mirrored nightly and used under the Norwegian Licence for Open Government Data (NLOD). Depths are metres along the wellbore from the kelly bushing unless a row gives its own unit; older cores are filed in feet. A zero the Directorate files for an unmeasured pressure, density, or temperature is shown as a dash.
