Well history

WRITTEN BY THE NORWEGIAN OFFSHORE DIRECTORATE

General

Well 6608/10-18 A is a geological side-track to well 6608/10-18 on the Revfallet Fault Complex in the Norwegian Sea. It was drilled to appraise the 6608/10-17 S Cape Vulture Discovery. The Cape Vulture Discovery consists of three Intra-Lange Formation sands, named the Cape Vulture Upper, Main, and Lower. The primary objective was to test the hydrocarbon potential in the Cape Vulture Main and Upper sandstones in an up-dip position from the 6608/10-18 mainwell.

Operations and results

Appraisal well 6608/10-18 A was kicked off from at 1365 m in wellbore 608/10-18 on 18 August 2018. It was drilled with the semi-submersible installation Songa Encourage to TD at 3474 m (3146 m TVD) in the Early Cretaceous Lange Formation. Operations proceeded without significant problems. The well was drilled with Enviromul oil-based mud from kick-off to TD.

Top reservoir in Cape Vulture Upper came in at 3282 m (3001.2 m TVD) m, 13 m meters deeper than prognosis, and with a gross thickness of 16 m. Good reservoir quality with an ‘oil-down-to’ situation was observed in Cape Vulture Upper. Cape Vulture Main came in at 3343 m (3047.3 m TVD), 13 meter (TVD) deeper than prognosed. It was oil filled and had a gross thickness of 25 m. Cape Vulture Lower was encountered at 3386 m (3079.9 m TVD) and was only 3 m thick. Oil shows (odour, stain, fluorescence and cut ) were described in all three Cape Vulture reservoirs, otherwise there were no oil shows described in the well.

Two cores were cut from 3276 to 3393 m in the Lange Formation with 99.7% and 98.5% recoveries, respectively. MDT fluid samples were taken at 3297.7 m (oil), and 3298 m (oil), and 3369.2 m (oil).

About this data

Norwegian Offshore Directorate (Sodir) FactPages, mirrored nightly and used under the Norwegian Licence for Open Government Data (NLOD). Depths are metres along the wellbore from the kelly bushing unless a row gives its own unit; older cores are filed in feet. A zero the Directorate files for an unmeasured pressure, density, or temperature is shown as a dash.
