Well history

WRITTEN BY THE NORWEGIAN OFFSHORE DIRECTORATE

General

Well 24/9-14 A is a geological side-track to 24/9-14 S, which confirmed oil and gas in Eocene injectites (Froskelår prospect) in the Vana Sub-basin in the North Sea. The structure was first drilled by 24/9-3 in 1981 and oil was discovered in the Frigg Formation. These Frigg sands were later re-defined as injectites. The primary objective of 24/9-14 A was to investigate the lateral extent, as well as the reservoir potential, of the injectites.

Operations and results

Appraisal well 24/9-14 A was kicked off at 1507 m in the main well on 23 February 2019. It was drilled with the semi-submersible installation Scarabeo 8 to TD at 4432 m (1881 m TVD) m in the Hordaland Group. The well continued the inclination from the main well of ca 35 ° down to ca 1800 m, then building angle to nearly horizontal through the injectite complex. Operations proceeded without significant problems. The well was drilled with Innovert oil-based mud from kick-off to 1920 m and with BaraECD 2.3 oil-based mud from 1920 m to TD.

Top of the injectite complex was encountered at 1987 m (1737 m TVD), with a main injectite with top at 2290 m (1807 m TVD). The side-track drilled through gas, oil and water zones in the injectite complex. Collected pressure points gave OWC at 1818 m TVD, while no GOC could be established due too few pressure points in the gas zone. The injectite sandstones has variable reservoir properties, mainly from good to excellent. There were no oil shows above the oil-based mud in the well

No cores were cut. No fluid sample was taken.

The well was permanently abandoned on 12 March as an oil and gas appraisal well.

About this data

Norwegian Offshore Directorate (Sodir) FactPages, mirrored nightly and used under the Norwegian Licence for Open Government Data (NLOD). Depths are metres along the wellbore from the kelly bushing unless a row gives its own unit; older cores are filed in feet. A zero the Directorate files for an unmeasured pressure, density, or temperature is shown as a dash.
