Well history

WRITTEN BY THE NORWEGIAN OFFSHORE DIRECTORATE

General

Well 6508/1-3 was drilled to test the Lynghaug prospect in on the Sør High in the Norwegian Sea. The primary objective was to investigate the presence of hydrocarbons in the Early Jurassic Åre Formation.

Operations and results

Wildcat well 6508/1-3 was spudded with the semi-submersible installation Transocean Arctic on 20 June 2019 and drilled to TD at 1687 m in the Early Jurassic Åre Formation. Operations proceeded without significant problems. The well was drilled with seawater and hi-vis pills down to 1043 m and with Glydril water-based mud from 1043 m to TD.

Top Åre Formation came in at 1515 m, a heavily interbedded section of claystone, sandstone and coal. LWD petrophysical analysis of Åre proved 54 m net sandstone reservoir with 32% average porosity. Net/Gross ratio is 0.31. No hydrocarbons were found except low levels of mainly biogenic gas. There were no oil shows in the well.

No cores were cut. No fluid sample was taken.

The well was permanently abandoned on 11 July 2019 as a dry well.

Testing

No drill stem test was performed.

About this data

Norwegian Offshore Directorate (Sodir) FactPages, mirrored nightly and used under the Norwegian Licence for Open Government Data (NLOD). Depths are metres along the wellbore from the kelly bushing unless a row gives its own unit; older cores are filed in feet. A zero the Directorate files for an unmeasured pressure, density, or temperature is shown as a dash.
