Well history

WRITTEN BY THE NORWEGIAN OFFSHORE DIRECTORATE

General

Well 24/9-13 A is an appraisal side-track to the 24/9-13 well in the Vana Sub-basin in the North Sea. Well 24/9-13 discovered gas in intra- Balder Formation and intra-Hordaland Group injectite sands. The primary objective for the 24/9-13 A side-track was to establish hydrocarbon contacts and sample oil if present.

Operations and results

Appraisal well 24/9-13 A was kicked off at 1462 m on 17 July 2019 and drilled with the semi-submersible installation Deepsea Nordkapp to TD at 3466 m (2273 m TVD) m in the Paleocene Heimdal Formation. The well was vertical down to about 1500 m, building angle to 75° at about 2050 m and with a sail angle between 70° and 80° through the injectite complex to TD. Operations proceeded without significant problems. The well was drilled with Innovert oil-based mud from kick-off to TD.

Gas was confirmed in two thin injectite sands at 2347 m (~0.5 m thick) and 2576 m (~3 m thick) within the Hordaland Group. No sand was encountered within the Balder Formation. The Heimdal Formation sandstone was water wet as expected. No hydrocarbon contact was established. There were no shows above OBM throughout the well.

No cores were cut. No fluid sample was taken due to insufficient continuous sand thickness as well as deteriorating hole conditions after TD.

The well was permanently abandoned on 29 July 2019 as a gas appraisal well.

Testing

No drill stem test was performed.

About this data

Norwegian Offshore Directorate (Sodir) FactPages, mirrored nightly and used under the Norwegian Licence for Open Government Data (NLOD). Depths are metres along the wellbore from the kelly bushing unless a row gives its own unit; older cores are filed in feet. A zero the Directorate files for an unmeasured pressure, density, or temperature is shown as a dash.
