Well history
WRITTEN BY THE NORWEGIAN OFFSHORE DIRECTORATE
General
Well 9/2-12 was drilled to test the Kathryn prospect in the Egersund Basin in the North Sea. The primary objective was to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of the Middle Jurassic Sandnes Formation sandstones, which is a proven oil reservoir in the nearby Yme field.
Operations and results
Drilling operations started out with drilling a vertical shallow gas pilot hole (9/2-U-7) 30 m to the SW of the main well location on 27 September 2019. The Pilot hole was drilled from seabed to 696 m. No indications of shallow gas/water flows or boulders were observed.
Wildcat well 9/2-12 was spudded with the semi-submersible installation Scarabeo 8 on 28 September 2019 and drilled to TD at 3155 m in the Middle Jurassic Bryne Formation. Operations proceeded without significant problems. The well was drilled with seawater and hi-vis pills down to 1248 m, with Innovert oil-based mud from 1248 m to 2982 m, and with KCl/Glycol water-based mud from 2982 m to TD.
The well encountered the target sandstones at 2991 m, 29 m shallower than predicted. The Sandnes Formation consisted of shallow marine sandstone with some intercalations of claystone, siltstone, and limestone down to 3123 m. The reservoir properties were good with a net-to-gross of 65.6% and average porosity of 16.8%. No shows were observed on cuttings and no increase above background levels of gas was observed during the entire drilling operation. No hydrocarbons have been interpreted from LWD data.
No cores were cut. No fluid sample was taken.
The well was permanently abandoned on 14 October 2019 as a dry well.

About this data
Norwegian Offshore Directorate (Sodir) FactPages, mirrored nightly and used under the Norwegian Licence for Open Government Data (NLOD). Depths are metres along the wellbore from the kelly bushing unless a row gives its own unit; older cores are filed in feet. A zero the Directorate files for an unmeasured pressure, density, or temperature is shown as a dash.
